The Transaction Company book

Currently I’m writing a book on The Transaction Company. Its purpose is to present the concept in a concise and entertaining way: concise, because I want to save time, energy and trees; entertaining, because serious business books should not miss a tinge of lightheartedness and playfulness.

Topics to be discussed in the book:

  • The holy mantras of The Transaction Company
  • How to gradually introduce internal transactions at your company, without causing (too much) havoc
  • About the choice of strategies related to asset ownership, internal investments and the distribution of shareholder dividends
  • Transactions, system theory and economic stability
  • Notes for daring IT system implementors
  • Some philosophical musings, such as how internal transactions can lead to a closure of the global market economy

As an author, I don’t want to stand in the way of my own intellectual creations (”children, roam free!”), therefore I decided to publish the core of the text as a freely available e-book, in addition to a printed publication. The e-book will come with a Creative Commons License.

The first thoughts to produce a book on The Transaction Company came to me in September 2005, about a year after my ideas about the concept began to clarify and gain substance. I commenced with the actual writing in April 2006 during a stay at my somewhat secluded abode in Germany. I had my peace to write, but not for long as the frenzy of the World Cup Finals began soon after that.

I discovered writing to be quite a useful process. It helped to crystallise my ideas. For example, I didn’t know how to title the book until ten pages into it I realised that most of the time I was talking about transactions. This is how I coined the name of the concept - “The Transaction Company”.

That said, I had no illusions that the book project would be a quick and easy one. Producing quality text is a slow process, and crafting the illustrations takes time too. Occasionally I find writing frustrating. The ideas in my mind feel like an inseparable tangle, like one whole thing. Unfortunately, this tangle of thoughts cannot be put straight onto paper, I have to “linearise” it, turn into a sensible string of words.
